It uses pearl enamel, which I have been getting more into lately. Not only does this enamel have a great swirl, but it also is translucent so the background vine on the side with the swords is semi-hidden. The effect is supposed to invoke fire.

The narrative for this coin follows:

Duncan is not particularly handsome or very tall; however, he is the sort of person that everyone notices when he walks into a room. His smile makes you want to be his friend, but that is not why I like him so much, it is because he makes things happen. While most people just talk about what they want the world to be, Duncan brings people together and makes dreams become reality.

One afternoon as I was finishing dinner, Duncan ran into the room and I could instantly see that something was happening. Although he looked terribly serious and even worried, it still felt like he was smiling at me, because that is the type of person he is. “Get up!” he commanded, “the beacon is lit!” We ran outside and it took a moment for my eyes to adjust to the sunlight. Up on the mountain I could see a column of smoke twisting into the sky. At its base, a brilliant fire blazed. This was a signal that all of us were needed. He turned to me as well as the large group that was quickly forming. He addressed us in a clear voice: “have you ever wished that you were important? Have you ever wanted to be more than just a simple person who goes to work each day and tries to save a bit of money to have some comfort? Your life has just become uncomfortable, dangerous, but you will also be great. The mighty heroes were not born in ages past; we will not dream about the day in the distant future when they arrive. The men and women who will change the world are standing in front of me here and now. The beacon is lit and we are needed!” He turned to get ready and we followed him. No one was surprised that he looked afraid for we were all afraid, but each one of us felt larger than we ever had before. We were no longer simple people with simple lives; we were being called to duty and sacrifice.
